Travel Volleyball

This competitive volleyball program is open to players who are ready to take their volleyball skills to the next level. Players must try out for this sport each season, and selection to a team is not guaranteed. Players must participate in one full tryout and, if possible, all other tryout dates for a fair assessment of each player's skill, effort, attitude, and teamwork. The focus of this program is to expand the knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, improve individual and cooperative volleyball skills, and build confidence to play any position. In addition, we aim to teach the proper technique for serving, passing, hitting, and setting while strengthening the player's particular skill set.  Player commitment is essential, and traveling to Parishes in Nassau and Suffolk counties is required.

  • Open to girls and boys in grades 5 through 12.
  • Tryouts:  Experience playing volleyball is not required; however, players must demonstrate basic ball control appropriate for the age group. Tryouts include individual player drills focusing on passing, serving, spiking, and setting. Group drills will consist of a continuous bump, set, and spike routine, focusing on ball control (aka Pepper) and game play. A player's willingness to learn the game and improve skills is expected.
  • Season runs January through May.  Games begin in March.
  • The team's season win/loss record will determine the team's participation in the single-elimination playoffs and championship game.
  • Travel jersey (provided by St. Rose CYO) and black shorts are required for games. Knee pads are recommended.
  • Additional apparel available for purchase through the St. Rose CYO online volleyball store.  Store will open before the sport season begins.
