St. Rose CYO is a ministry of the St. Rose of Lima Parish in Massapequa, NY. Our organization offers one of the most extensive CYO sports programs in the Northeast, averaging 2500 participants, 300 teams, and over 300 coach volunteers annually. For more than five decades, we have aimed to provide a competitive athletic experience where all participants demonstrate the following core values: Spiritual Formation, Integrity, Strength in Community, Sportsmanship, Commitment, and Teamwork. Pope John Paul said, “Give thanks to God for the gift of sport, in which the human person exercises his body, intellect and will, recognizing these abilities as so many gifts of his Creator.”
St. Rose CYO offers a variety of Intramural and Travel sports programs for our youngest athletes (pre-K), our grades K-12 athletes, and even our mature athletes (over 30 leagues). Our Intramural programs are open to athletes of all faiths and skill levels. Our Travel programs are available to athletes who meet the CYOLI Travel Eligibility requirements and demonstrate skill for competitive play.
Without the support of our volunteers, the St. Rose CYO program would not be possible. Our volunteers dedicate their time and embody the Christian attitude of positive reinforcement and respect for all the athletes while teaching the sport and promoting the values of sportsmanship and teamwork. In addition, they strive to motivate, encourage, and teach so all players can reach their potential and learn their value and responsibility to the Team, Church and Community.
We keep the “C” in CYO. The “C” in CYO stands for Catholic, and although our program is not limited to Catholics, we say a prayer before each game. In addition, we invite our teams to come to church for a blessing during their season of play and encourage them to give back to the community by participating in our Annual Christmas Mass, Tree Lighting & Toy Drive, and other charitable events throughout the year.
